Wollongong City Council has highlighted the importance of recycling batteries, and not just tossing them in the bin.
Council received a call on Thursday morning, telling them that one of the Remondis frontlift garbage trucks had caught fire, due to a car battery ‘incorrectly’ placed in the bin.
While the load was dumped and the firies dealt with the fire, Council advises that you can drop off car and household batteries for free, at a number of locations including the Community Recycling Centre at Whytes Gully.
