The NSW State Emergency Service is monitoring the weather and is prepared to respond as rain is forecast to impact much of the east coast this week.

The experts advise a front is expected to move across the south east of the state, including the South Coast, the Illawarra and Sydney, from tonight and into Thursday.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting widespread rainfall of 40 to 60mm, with isolated falls of up to 80mm possible in some areas.
