Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Alex Barrell has visited the Illawarra with simple safety messages for Illawarra boaters and others.
Download the free Marine Rescue NSW app and always Log On, paddlers from SUP’s to fishing kayakers should log on as well, and boaters should check their vessel, ensuring there’s enough fuel and some in reserve, check the weather and conditions and always wear a lifejacket, Commissioner Barrell said.
Illawarra units have already had a busy start to the boating season –
The Port Kembla unit has completed 137 search and rescue missions in first 10 months of this year of which 91 were emergencies with the base keeping watch over 3,853 logged on boaters
The Shellharbour unit has completed 13 search and rescue missions in the first 10 months of this year of which 12 were emergencies
Commissioner Barrell also said Marine Rescue NSW is always on the look out for volunteers, anyone interested in joining up should get in touch.
