A critical incident investigation is underway after a motorcyclist was injured in a crash following a Police pursuit near Shellharbour yesterday.
Just before 11pm Monday 18 March 2024, an officer from Lake Illawarra Police attempted to stop a motorcyclist on the Princes Highway, Croom, after the rider allegedly failed to stop.
Police directed the rider to stop, but when he allegedly failed to do so a pursuit was initiated, the pursuit was terminated immediately due to the speed of the rider.
A short time later, police found that the motorcycle had crashed into a median strip, with the rider, a 34-year-old man, sustaining severe leg injuries.
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to St George Hospital in a critical condition.
A crime scene has been established which is being examined by officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.
An investigation has commenced into the incident by a Critical Incident Investigation Team from Wollongong Police District.
Those investigations will be subject to an independent review.
