A police officer has been charged over the alleged domestic violence-related assault of a woman in the state’s south.
It is alleged the 47-year-old officer – who is a sergeant with a Southern Region command – assaulted a woman on two occasions, once in 2018 and once in 2020.
Following an investigation, officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District yesterday (Monday 16 September 2024), issued him with a future court attendance notice for one count each of common assault, and intentionally choke person without consent.
He is due to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 12 November 2024.
The officer’s employment status is currently under review.
