Save the Koala Day is today, Friday 29 September, and the official launch has taken place to announce the start of the Illawarra Escarpment Koala Thermal Drone Abundance Mapping.
The primary objective of these surveys is to obtain modeled abundance mapping of the elusive and relatively unknown escarpment koalas along with species such as the endangered greater glider.
Powered by the South32 and Symbio Wildlife Park Conservation Initiative, the team at Symbio WIldlife Park is fast-tracking these surveys prior to what is predicted to be a very harsh summer.
