Surf Lifesavers rescued more than 300 people on NSW beaches on Australia Day, with the Illawarra in the thick of it.
Teams responded to more than 50-major incidents, and there were a number of shark sightings which closed beaches briefly while searches were conducted at places like Stanwell Park.
A mass rescue of seven teens was conducted by surfers and lifesavers at Austinmer beach.
