RDA Illawarra is calling on the NSW Government to commit to developing an Integrated
Multi-Modal Services plan for the Illawarra amid commuter frustration at peak-hour road
congestion.
The call to action comes as RDA Illawarra releases the findings of research into the
Illawarra’s public transport system.
Modelling works were carried out by the University of Wollongong’s SMART facility on
behalf of RDA Illawarra to determine how many regional addresses could commute to the
Wollongong CBD or Stockland Shellharbour within 30 minutes by train or bus.
The research revealed less than 11 percent of Wollongong addresses could access the CBD
by rail in 30 minutes.
The situation is worse for Shellharbour residents with just eight percent able to access Stockland Shellharbour by rail in 30 minutes.
