A man has been charged following a fatal crash in the Illawarra last weekend.
About 11.10am on Sunday 10 November 2024, emergency services were called to the northbound lanes of the M1 Motorway at Figtree, following reports of a three-vehicle crash.
The impact caused a 66-year-old male motorbike rider to lose control, he was thrown from the motorbike and collided with a white MG SUV.
The driver of the Ford Falcon utility then allegedly failed to stop after the crash.
Despite the efforts of first responders and Ambulance Paramedics, the rider of the motorbike was unable to be revived and died at the scene.
Following inquiries, about 4.30pm Friday 15 November 2024, Police went to Spearing Parade, Gwynneville and located a silver Ford Falcon in the backyard of the premises, the vehicle has been seized and will be subject to forensic and mechanical examination.
About 9.40pm Friday night, Police arrested a 45-year-old man, at an address at Power Drive at Mount Warrigal, he was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with six offences.
He was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local court on Saturday 16 November 2024.
