Expect to see plenty of NSW Police on Illawarra roads from today, with Operation Christmas / New Year underway.
Get caught speeding, using a mobile phone illegally, or not wearing a seatbelt or motorcycle helmet during double demerit periods, and you’ll face double the points, for the next 11 days, through till the New Year.
Transport for NSW advises all unrestricted NSW licence holders – including professional drivers – are eligible for a demerit point trial that aims to reward responsible driving behaviour.
During the trial, if an eligible driver maintains an offence-free record during the trial period, one demerit point will be removed from their driving record.

The trial began on 17 January 2023, and runs till 16 January 2024.
