The number of Illawarra and South Coast beaches, impacted by beach pollution continues to fall, after the recent rain events.
The NSW Government’s Beach Watch scheme says we can expect bacterial pollution at Bellambi and Corrimal beaches today, while there’s a chance of pollution at Bulli Beach.
Beach Watch uses rainfall data has been used to predict the likelihood of bacterial contamination at beaches in the Illawarra.
As a general precaution, swimming at beaches in the Illawarra region should be avoided for up to one day after heavy rainfall or for as long as stormwater is present. The most obvious signs of stormwater pollution are water discolouration as well as debris in the water and on the tide line.
